Market analysis, shares and stock markets are the phrases that are the cornerstone of all economic activities in the contemporary marketplace. The terminologies have been gaining grounds since less than half a century. BSE plays the first fiddle in the Indian stock market, representing 30 largest and most actively traded stocks on various sectors. These 30 BSE companies include State Bank of India, Tata Steel, Wipro, Reliance Industries, Ranbaxy Laboratories, NTPC, Larsen & Toubro, Infosys, to name a few, all honchos in their respective arenas. The BSE index, which started in 1979 with a base value of 100, increased by ten times from 1990. Henceforth, BSE companies reaped huge gains, performing well, thus getting the BSE index display its outstanding rise of shares.
With huge falls experienced by BSE sensex during January 2008 at the highest loss of 1,408 points in the ending session, BSE companies still surged forward hardly affected by the downslide. In the following months, the BSE index climbed up as high as 17,605.40 until the panicky situation that arose due to fears of a recession in the US. Thereafter the BSE sensex witnessed a huge fall, losing 2,273 points but later again rose to 19,013. And then the global downslide affected all markets including BSE stocks prices and the struggle to cover up is on till date.
The new year week saw the BSE Sensitive Index finishing at 1.8% points higher with large swings. The uptrend flashed on in certain sectors like engineering and communications with realty and auto sectors being negatively affected. The downtrend saga that started from September 2008, turning many investors bankrupt, creating thousands of jobless, with many companies shut down, is still on. Yet there is an optimistic approach as the BSE sensitive index, though fluctuating between an uptrend and downslide, began to gain points. BSE stocks prices are attracting investors and analysts are of the opinion that investing at the current situation will pay good results. But BSE stocks prices are attracting only a minor section of investors. Many investors are waiting for the BSE index to display its lost points.
